The best worst movie of the 80s that’s been made in 2015. Boom! Never taking itself seriously and always fun, Kung Fury is the must see of 2015.
This movie is the epitome of a good bad movie. Now, if you’re confused, you won’t be once you’ve seen it. Laser Unicorns has produced a gem of a crap heap. From its bad 80s music, convoluted plot line rip off of every movie ever made, weird stiff acting, awkward pauses, incredibly awesome bad special effects and strange nonsensical dialogue, this movie has it all and you want it and more. Writer, Director and star, David Sandberg, took every cliché from the 80s movie making world, chucked it in a blender, and made this awesome piece of fun crapolla.
Here’s a simple check list of your typical 80s movie themes:
-

Poor Arian minion crying over his… just watch it Rogue cops: check.
- Dead partner: check.
- Gratuitous violence: check.
- Dinosaurs: check.
- Villain: only the worst guy in history, so, yeah, check.
- Superhero: check.
- Kung Fu: check!
- Cool special effects: check.
- Random explosions: check.
- Computers and hackers: check.
- Awesome computer dialogue that no-one understands: check.
- 80s style music and intro: check.
- Robots: check.
- Teleportation: check.
- Swearing: in the best possible way, check.
- Video games coming to life: check!
- A plot that makes very little sense: absolutely checked.
- Gratuitous nudity: unchecked.

And the checked list just goes on. Sandberg has made such a fun movie out of his Kickstarter campaign. A brilliantly bad movie which reminds us of what truly made the 80s great. Shameless plagiarism, corny one liners and David Hasselhoff.
I won’t spoil it for you. This will be the best bad movie you’ll ever spend 30 minutes on. There are some great laughs along the way. From its opening sequence, showing you what can be done with a skateboard, to the rolling credits, you will be amazed at how not good this movie in the traditional sense. But how good it is because it does not take itself seriously and just goes with it.

And come on, any movie with the naughties greatest catch phrase in it is awesome. “Don’t hassle the Hoff.”
This is an action packed kung-fu movie, with so many plot twists and turns, that you’re able to predict what’s going to happen next, without actually knowing what on earth happened beforehand. I love the details which Sandberg has littered throughout the entire movie, mocking himself and the genres which Kung Fury is a montage to. The arcade transformer is star of this movie. I won’t ruin it for you.
With great attention to detail, Kung Fury is a complete throw-back and salute to an era of movie watching which is long gone. He brilliantly makes fun of our cinematic past, and I look forward to its exceptionally bad sequel. Sandberg is a genius, I look forward to see what he does next.
Check out the movie for yourself and tell us what you think. Do you agree?
Spoiler alert in the ratings section… so beware.
Rating: 9/10, a genius piece of crap. It delivers on its promise and does not try to be good in any way.
See it again: Maybe, it’s a unique experience.
Worth my time: Yes, any movie with a talking car is worth your time, one way or another. And hey, a transforming arcade machine who says F-you in the most creative way is well worth my time.
Take my mother: No, mum’s a lady of class and sophistication. Ah, screw it, she can suck it up and watch it with dad.
Talking points: Oh so many, and yet nothing at all. Forgotten almost immediately, until you start talking to someone about it, and then, you bring forth your best Arcade Machine impersonation.
Annoyance factor: 0/10, I got exactly what I expected. A really crappy movie that made very little to no sense, with bad acting and stupid dialogue. It was genuinely enjoyable to get what I expected, yet, it still managed to surprise me.
Check out our post about Minion Training College, the humour is very similar to that of Kung Fury.
