PAN & JAMES: Questionable entertainment

Pan (Pankun) is a chimp who is capable of doing things a small child can do.  He’s famous all over Asia, and even had his own show.  Pan would go on his errands and adventures with his travelling companion, a bulldog by the name of James.  His owner would follow behind at a distance like a crazed stalking parent with crazy eyes.

GWYNETH PALTROW: conscious uncoupling of the public’s love

You know the image, you know the outrage
You know the image, you know the outrage

She’s got it all, beauty, brains, money, crazy talent and a list of exes which is almost the who’s who of Hollywood A-listers.  So, it’s understandable why people around the world love and love to hate her. But is it?

Jennifer Lawrence has the same list of credentials, and yet, people don’t hate her. Jennifer Aniston, same thing, people don’t hate her either.  But Nicole Kidman, she’s in the same boat as Paltrow.  And yet, Katie Holmes isn’t (now that she’s divorced).

JURASSIC WORLD: A LESSON UNLEARNT

Velociraptors can no longer open doors... phew?
Velociraptors can no longer open doors… phew?

Ummm… how do I do this and still manage your expectations?  This movie is awesome!  No, it sucked… no, really, it’s awesome… expectation management, let me try it again. If you go in expecting Jurassic Park III, then, you’ll be blown away.

THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 2 (teaser trailer)

Why oh why didn't they fire the hair people?
Why oh why didn’t they fire the hair people?

Katniss is back and I hate to say it, she’s back with a terrible wig.  I am a fan of the franchise, it is the only teen post-apocalyptic, life or death love maze dome selection blah blah, angst type movie that I actually think is worthy of more than its teen or preteen market.  I even read the books.  I hate myself a little more and feel as though I’m betraying women everywhere by pointing out the bad wig.  But damn, it’s so bad.  Didn’t anyone notice it on set?

MISCARRIAGE – THE UNSPOKEN SORROW

They say that 15-20% of known pregnancies end in miscarriage.  And more than 80% of these miscarriages will occur within the first trimester (3 months).  This is the silent sorrow which effects so many individuals and couples, and yet, it is something that we rarely talk about.

For whatever reason, couples mourn the loss of their child quietly and alone.  They are often advised “You’re young, you can try again and have another baby.”  And that doesn’t help anyone, no matter how true it is.  At that point of loss, all you want to do is grieve for the child that would have been, should have been yours.

ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT: TOP 5 NON BLUTHS, SEASON 1

In honour of Netflix’s announcement of production for a 5th season of the incredibly timeless and funny Arrested Development, let’s go through our favourite top 5 reoccurring Non Bluths.  For argument sake, we will also disqualify any Funkes, because, let’s face it, the never-nude Tobias is one of the best characters to ever be introduced to you.  Let’s get started with season 1:

  1. Maggie Lizer – Julia Louis-Dreyfus

MAJOR CRIMES – HELLO OLD FRIEND

The old gang are back
The old gang are back

Ahhh… this week marks the return of season 4 of Major Crimes, or the 11th season of The Closer, depending on how you view it.  And I welcome it.

Little changes in this show, including the ensemble cast, and I’m really happy about that.  There’s a lot to be said for a fantastic ensemble cast and actors who understand the quirks of their characters so well.

SENSE8 : FROM CRAP TO COMPLETELY WATCHABLE

sense8 03Somewhere between an excruciating third episode to the season finale, this show does a complete 180o and redeems itself.  I don’t know when, I don’t know where, since I couldn’t bring myself around to sitting through episodes 4 to 11, not at the risk of any of these being as bad as 1 through to 3.  I had had enough.

I thought to myself, why not give the finale a chance?  You know how sometimes, a book can be incredibly frustrating, but, when you skip to the last chapter, it is actually exciting as all the twists and turns have revealed themselves.

SENSE8 EP02 : *BEEP* FEST CONTINUES, ARGH!

So, I whined to my editor about Sense8 and told him that I’ve had enough of that piece of shite.  His response was simple, “I need you to watch at least 3 more episodes.  And then we’ll see.”

I don’t know if it’s wise to call your editor names, but I’m going to do it.  Slack *beep*, why can’t he watch it and write about it.  Why make me do it?  This show sucks so much that I’m surprised Netflix didn’t pull the pin after they saw the first episode.
