I AM CAIT: BORING

I really wanted to like this show, I was a supporter of Bruce Jenner, and now, am a supporter of Caitlyn Jenner.  I wish nothing but the best for her, and I wish that she has an awesome life being her true self.

But damn, this show is boring.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKZCcVKVHws

Reality TV is good because it’s random (in a semi scripted way), dramatic, have shock value and random not be so incredibly predictable and yet, is.  There are key players within each show whom you love to hate, love to love, want to be, or you are, and have no agenda other than fame.

I am Cait lacks all of this.  There is no-one you want to see fail, there is no you want to love, and there’s a tonne of political agenda.  There is the odd appearance by some of Cait’s family, but it’s short lived and all about how much they support her.

Cait’s now integrating herself into the Transgender community and being the most high profile transgender ever, they want her to be a political activist.  Trusting her into the lime light and making her speak for their cause.  Which is something that Caitlyn isn’t. She’s not a vocal activist, she hasn’t come from the gutter, having lived that horrible life on being shamed and shunned.  Caitlyn, in comparison, has had it easy.  And even then, it’s not an easy road.

The only interesting part of this show was when Cait visited the family of a transgender boy who had committed suicide.  The plight of this boy and his family would have been so much more interesting, educational and heartfelt than the road trip that Cait embarks on.

I feel that I am Cait would have been better as a documentary, rather than a reality TV show.  A real look into what it means to be transgender and how much cr@p they have to suffer and endure on a day to day basis by people who are hurtful, evil and judgemental.

I am bored of the constant political message from this show, I am not in it for that, I want entertainment.  It’s a reality show.  If I wanted something educational, I’d watch a documentary.

I wanted to see Caitlyn live her life, with her friends from the Bruce days, and see how people are transitioning with her.  I don’t want to see Caitlyn ditching people in her old life and being embroiled in a new life where she’s only friends with people who are also transgender.  I get it, birds of a feature flock together, but that’s not what I want to see.

This show would be more powerful, insightful and educational, if they were to show how Caitlyn was coping with the people from her past coping with her.  How her friends are coming around, and how they’re not.

It’s a constant barrage of positive messages, and the only real moment came from Caitlyn’s mother.  She’s torn with what’s happened.  She loved her son, and always will, doesn’t quite understand her new daughter, but accepts it.  She mourns for the son that she’s now lost and must learn to deal with the daughter that she is.

Surprisingly, Kayne West, is a very big supporter of Caitlyn, and his willingness to actually be on the show is a credit to him, given that he’s refused to cameo on KUWTK.  He’s supported Kim through the transition and he actually sounds like he’s not a total douchebag.

Caitlyn reveals that the Kardashian/Jenner clan have proclaimed their support for her via the media, but they have not actually come over and visited her.  Kim was the first.

This is actually the interesting part of the show, and I hope that they delve into that more, with actual real emotions.  Dealing with a transition isn’t just something that one person goes through, it’s them and their loved ones.  Everyone must deal with it in their own way and time, and it’s OK.  Just don’t deal with it in a hateful manner.

I wish Caitlyn all the best, but, I won’t be tuning in every single week to see how she’s going.  Bruce was boring on KUWTK, and now, Caitlyn’s boring on I am Cait.  I really wanted to like this show, and I wanted to see her succeed and make a cr@pload of money out of it, but, meh, she’s just boring.  And I’m not into being forcefed political agenda, no matter how right it is.  I like my political agenda spoon fed, with aeroplane noises, so I’m distracted.

Rating: 3/10, there are some genuine moments which make you think, but otherwise, it’s superficial and rather forced.  Sidekicks who are trying to push for romance and adventure, come on, leave her be.  She needs to be comfortable with herself and know who she is first before she ventures into dating.  Let the woman breathe.

See it again: Maybe, I will tune in on and off to see how she’s going, but in all honesty, I just don’t care all that much.  I just want her to be happy, and now that she’s living her life as she’s always wanted it, has money, and has family and friends who support her, I don’t feel compelled to see if she’s dating someone.

Worth my time: sadly, no, Caitlyn is boring as a person, just as Bruce was boring.

Tell my mother: No, it’s just a boring show, and mum’s cool with transgender people.

Talking points: the teenager who committed suicide, even though his family and friends supported his choice.  It was strangers who made his life hell, it was them and their taunts which made him so depressed.  Words hurt, and your carelessness and malicious words will make someone feel horrible about themselves.  Think before you speak.  I am the pot calling the kettle black.

Annoyance factor: 9/10, the constant political agenda, and activists who are forcing the role of being the public face of their cause onto Caitlyn, who is not ready for it.  She’s needs more time to experience life as a transgender woman, meeting more people with whom she can relate to, and most importantly, she needs to want to be that spokesperson.  She’s begrudgingly being that person now, and feels the tremendous pressure that is being bestowed upon her, it’s just not fair.  Leave her be and let her live her life.  She must chose for herself what she wants.
